Sona Build
Best Build Guide for Sona
Item Build Description
Additional information on the items
For your starting items on Sona , you can either take Amplifying Tome or Sapphire Crystal . But that depends on how your playstyle is within the early game;
- If you are aggressive in lane, take Amplifying Tome
- If you are passive then in lane, take Sapphire Crystal save up for your Tear of the Goddess .
This leads to the first core item that is ESSENTIAL for Sona that is the Archangel's Staff . Being a somewhat spammy support with her abilities on very low cooldowns, Sona requires mana...lot's of mana!
Ardent Censer as a second item will usually depend on who your ADC is, champions like Jinx , Vayne or even [kaisa] would benefit from this. The reason is because you and your ADC gain attack speed, as well as on hit (bonus) magic damage for 6 seconds. Make sure to take advantage of it!
Harmonic Echo as a second item will benefit from champions that are very aggressive in the early game (a.k.a Lane Bully). Champions like Draven , Miss Fortune and even Jhin would benefit from this because it heals you and your ADC at 100 stacks, so don't be afraid to trade in lane once you see this item at maximum stacks!
Third item for me, is usually where I choose my boots & enchant considering the active is crucial to a mid-to-late game teamfights. I am here to breakdown the boots you should get, to know what is a must-buy;
- Ionian Boots of Lucidity is the boots I usually get when my whole team and I are snowballing. Having more Ability Haste means you are able to spam out your spells even more. Remember Ability Haste has no cap, so spam them abilities like it's URF.
- [Ninja Tabi] is when the enemy team has a fed AD Assassin or ADC that you don't want to mess with. Also if you need to survive, for when you need to be there for your team. This item will be useful for champions like Zed or even Yasuo
Mercury's Treads is for when you are against a bursty support like Lux or Seraphine , It also comes in handy when you are against the AP Assassins like Akali , Evelynn , Fizz & Kennen . Also Mercury's Treads reduces the amount of CC (crowd control) time dealt to you.
Which Boot enchant should you get?
Got your boots? Now what enchant would you go with? Here are a some suggestions;
- [Locket Enchant] is SO USEFUL! I am so surprised that no one uses this enchant often, especially the support players out there (Tank Baron Laner's can benefit from this too.) Giving your shield an AOE shield that can probably save everyone is
kind of broken, add on to Sona 's [sona:2] then your team will positively survive those late game teamfights for Baron or Elder Dragon. Just make sure to POSITION properly, an enemy assassin or enemy jungler can easily focus you down. - Redeeming Enchant is so UNDERRATED. Okay even I can confess that, I barley use this enchant but that doesn't mean it's a bad enchant. I mean, a huge AOE heal that does 10% health of TRUE DAMAGE to enemies... is crazy. The only problem with this enchant, is your timing and how well can you land it during a teamfight or any other type of skirmishes.
- Shadows Enchant is probably that enchant where the game recommends you to get, but compared to others this is the least efficient enchant - for me anyways. See by the late game you would probably have your Sweeping Lens that is way more efficient, as well as using the vision plants that is around the jungle. However, scouting out where champions are with the shadows will come in handy and give a sense where majority of their team is.
For you 4th & 5th item could be situational and it all depends on you, here are some items that you might want to add to your build;
- Rod of Ages Gathering Storm 2.0? Yes, Sona can benefit from this, with more mana, and more health and more AP, a perfect triangle.
- Lich Bane bring in more damage with you, from your 1st skill. (If you max the first skill first.)
- Athene's Unholy Grail for even more healing. You will be surprise how much healing you can do once late game hits.
- Zeke's Convergence is a tremendously powerful item! Not only does it bring the armor and magic resistances to Sona (which she needs) but it also bring a buff that increases the attack of the highest AD in the game for 2 seconds whenever you cast your ultimate.
- Protector's Vow This is very useful when there is a lot of assassins trying to take you or your ADC down. The shield can be triggered whenever a champion, monster, or even a turret hits you, both you and an ally next to you will get the shield. Don't forget more armor stats so that you can survive! Useful in all AD team comps.
Sona Runes
Best Runes for Sona
- Summon Aery is a MUST HAVE spell for every enchanter support for the extra shield, and it always comes handy in clutch situations.
- Gathering Storm is useful for Sona 's AP scaling, it will her Aria Of Perseverance more healing and her Hymn Of Valor will deal more damage.
- Regeneration I have tested these in some games, it works. A good fellow Sona main told me, its powerful, and it is. I trust that person, trust me.
- Manaflow Band this will help Sona's mana problems even further adding it with Archangel's Staff
- Font Of Life The new kid on the block got a rework and it's honestly the must have rune for any support.
- Gathering Storm is useful for Sona 's AP scaling, it will her Aria Of Perseverance more healing and her Hymn Of Valor will deal more damage.
- Bone Plating is useful for Sona because she takes less damage from the early game with this rune.
- Manaflow Band this will help Sona's mana problems even further adding it with Archangel's Staff

Combos
Learn how to maximize the champions potential
The standard level 1 poke combo in lane.
If you have Sona's Passive on Blue, try using it follow it up with an attack then a 1st skill and finally another auto attack.
If you can guarantee a kill, this combo would honestly be the one you can go for.
Sona Matchups & Counters
Detailed information on how to play matchups and counters
Janna is a one the simplest matchups because Sona generally has more poke at level 1 with Hymn Of Valor and her strong sustain from Aria Of Perseverance .
Just be careful when Janna shields her ADC with Eye Of The Storm because if you didn't know Janna 's shield gives AD and it scales the more points it gets added into it, either focus the person who is shielded or wait for the shield to wear off.
Also once Janna does her Zephyr ...RUN! Because that likely means you are getting ganked and will die! Sona is squishy and will easily get caught up from that slow, so make sure to ward up!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Sona isn't like her PC counterpart. In all honesty she is more better here, and she can actually compete with the other supports. My advice is try her out and but be safe and learn how to position properly.
