To start off, buy a Long Sword .

The core items on Zed should be Youmuu's Ghostblade and Duskblade of Draktharr as it is better to not engage an enemy without finishing either one of these items. These two items both include the item Serrated Dirk which gives ad and armor pen, the essentials for Zed.
After completing the first two items of the build, then you could buy Mortal Reminder for more damage and armor pen. It also applies grievous wounds.
Instead of Mortal Reminder , Black Cleaver is also viable. Black Cleaver gives hp and ability haste, while Mortal Reminder gives grievous wounds and more damage. So it is very situational.
Survivability is also a way to tell a good Zed player from the rest! Phantom Dancer gives shielding and crit chance, build when enemies have hard burst. Death's Dance reduces damage taken in one go and makes is so that you have a lesser chance to get one shoted, build it when you're hard diving enemy carries. Maw of Malmortius shields magic damage, build it when enemy mages do the most damage. Guardian Angel lets you have two lives, build when your not very ahead.
Most of the time it's best to build Ionian Boots of Lucidity for cdr and ability haste, but other boots like Gluttonous Greaves and Mercury's Treads are also good in certain situations.

Electrocute is the best and only rune that should be run on zed!

Brutal because brutal.

Hunter-Titan for hp and tenacity.

And for the inspiration rune, you can play sweet tooth, pathfinder or hunter-genius. All work well on Zed!

This combo follows the principle of hit and run. But you kill, not hit.
