VAYNE GUIDE

Vayne is one of the best hypercarries in the game with her insane mid to late game transitions, and a very valuable pick in a "tank meta". I'll show you how I build her, the runes I use and some tips and tricks to use her properly.

Pros

She's an excellent anti-tank marksman, so a very good pick in the current meta even if not at the top of it.
Her late game is among the best, alongside Tristana. She can easily wipe out anyone when she's full build.
She has a very good follow-up potential due to her passive and her ult, and has crowd controls with her 3rd ability.

Cons

She's very weak in early game, so if she falls behind, it's hard to comeback.
She heavily relies on positioning. If she's out of position, she's pretty dead almost in every case.
She has no inherent wave clear or AOE damage, so you have to be good at CS'ing.

The first power spike you want on Vayne is the Blade of the Ruined King , that synergizes perfectly with Silver Bolts ' passive and lets you engage stealing movement speed and deal bonus damage. Particularly effective against supports like Alistar , Braum or Galio , and more generally, against tanky compositions.

In the "First recall" section, I've put both Vampiric Scepter and Recurve Bow as well as the complete Blade of the Ruined King item, because you can buy the components or the item depending on game situation. In general, with a good CSing, you can buy Blade of the Ruined King when you recall for the first drake fight.

Vayne has 2 main power spikes: one is her first item, Blade of the Ruined King , and the second one is when she buys Infinity Edge as her third item. In this way, Vayne is capable to annihilate her enemies with very few auto-attacks due to her Silver Bolts 's passive.

(2.4 UPDATE) As third item, instead of Infinity Edge , you can go for a new Solari Chargeblade . It helps you dealing a lot of damage when you do critical hits.

To close the build, the best items right now are Guardian Angel and Mortal Reminder , mainly because there are a lot of tanks and/or assassins, and you have to take care of them. Mortal Reminder is pretty effective against champions that has a lot of sustain (like Draven ) or really tanky (like Malphite ) or both (like Dr. Mundo ).

As situational items, you can buy Maw of Malmortius if you have a lot of AP against you instead of Phantom Dancer (due to Lifeline's passive), or Bloodthirster if you need a lot of sustain, but personally I don't recommend it.

These are the personal runes I use on Vayne.

Fleet Footwork is good if you have a laning phase against poke champions ( Ezreal , Ziggs ADC, Janna , Nami and more) to have sustain with your autoattacks, even with Silver Bolts' passive that heals you.

Gathering Storm fits well with Vayne's scaling need. Bone Plating is now a great rune for basically every ADC right now, for its damage reduction in short trades. Sweet Tooth gives you health/mana as well as bonus gold when you or your support takes it.

Miss Fortune is an easy matchup overall for Vayne, but not in every game phase. In early game you have to pay a lot of attention for Double Up bouncing on the minions in front of you, dealing a lot of damage. But starting from mid game, you start to outscale her so you can easily win a 1vs1 with her with ease.
